When the U.S. entered WWI, Emma Storey--pictured here with her family in 1903--had several draft-age sons and nephews; ultimately her son Charles L. Storey and nephew Thomas Frazier Storey both served. Emma joined the many Renton women on the homefront who did their part to support the troops. She served as Superintendent of Knitting for the Renton Auxiliary of the Red Cross. Answering the Army's call for warm garments, Emma and the other women of the Renton Red Cross had knitted 505 pairs of socks and 353 sweaters by mid-1918. ... See MoreSee Less

Great location! Convenient to highway and shopping. Love our neighborhood and having downtown mins away!
Definitely being around people who care and love the city.
Close to the heart!
This is home. I still get hugs when I meet high school friends of my boys and they are 34 and 38. So there are a lot of us who don't leave.
I love my city.. went to Lakeridge, Dimmitt and Hazen growing up. Raised my children through Maplewood, McKnight, and Hazen. One of the most amazing things to me is how many people never left Renton. But, our city has changed and is still changing, and not always for the good. Our city planners allowed way too much development without adding in additional infrastructure.. 2 lanes trying to leave the Highlands during rush hour( or any hour after 9 am) is a disaster. 405 is a hot mess, and the upcoming tolling is going to create unintended consequences on our surface streets. My desire is to see our elected officials start requiring all new construction to pay an impact fee and use those funds for schools, roads, more mass transit, and better mass transit in our area... Because that is the number 1 thing that Renton sucks at.
